Robert ”Rotten Robbie ”Benson Obituary, Cause of Death, Wrestling Community Mourns Loss Of Rotten Robbie

The wrestling community is often described as a family, bound together by shared passion, grit, and a deep respect for the ring. Today, that family mourns the loss of one of its most dedicated members. Limitless Wrestling is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Robert Benson, a man known affectionately throughout the Maine wrestling landscape as “Rotten Robbie.”

Robbie was far more than just a face in the crowd; he was a cornerstone of the local independent scene. For over two decades, he served as a watchful guardian of the sport, constantly scouting for new talent and supporting promotions such as the EWA, IWE, and NAWA. His influence helped shape the careers of many who walked through the ropes in the Pine Tree State.

His journey in the industry began in the late 1990s, during the foundational years of the EWA. As a manager, Robbie possessed a natural ability to command attention and elevate the performers around him. His resume was nothing short of legendary, having managed local favorites as well as national icons like “Cowboy” Bob Orton. He also stood by Master Sandy, the trailblazing athlete who etched her name in history as the only woman to hold the EWA Heavyweight Championship.

Perhaps most touching was Robbie’s recent chapter. In his later years, he transitioned from a fixture of the ring to a mentor of the heart, proudly sharing his lifelong passion for professional wrestling with his family.

One of his most poignant moments occurred on May 5th, 2023. Robbie made a triumphant return to the EWA during the proto-event for EWA-Maine. Performing in front of over 200 fans in his own hometown, held in the very high school gymnasium where he graduated, the night was a full-circle celebration of his life’s work. The smile on his face that night is an image that will forever be etched in the memories of those who were there to witness it.

Our deepest condolences go out to his family, his friends, and the countless fans who were touched by his presence. Rest in peace, Robbie. Your legacy remains limitless.
